Peter Gutteridge is considered a giant in New Zealand music for his hand in forming some of Flying Nun’s most celebrated bands such as The Clean, The Chills, The Great Unwashed, and Snapper.
Sunday September 15 marks 10 years since his death.
Whether you knew and loved Peter as the Christchurch label broke onto the scene (some called him the “architect of the Dunedin Sound”) in the 1980s, were lucky enough to bear witness to his musical renaissance in the 2010s, or missed it all and find this all terribly curious, your presence is welcome.
The turntables will be set up on the stage, where we will be spinning vinyl from The Clean, The Great Unwashed, Snapper, and Pure, Peter's lone solo album of intimate home recordings. If you have some of his vinyl that you would like to play, by all means bring it along.
Come along, raise a glass to Peter's hypnotic and addictive music and perhaps make some new friends amongst those gathering to sing the praises of the man The Guardian called “one of the most unsung in a scene of unsung heroes”.
Space Academy will be opening an hour early at 4pm for this event. We will be listening for two hours clean. Event ends at 6 sharp.
Children welcome, as Peter loved them. The pizza oven will be firing, so relax and feed the family.
As Pete would say, be a fine thing to see you.
Our cohosts, Pearl Diver, will be hosting a simultaneous listening party in Dunedin.
