Hi all! Let me invite you to a photo exhibition "Protecting the Planet and Our Brains: A Photographic Exploration", showcases the collaborative efforts of 14 Auckland residents, who have documented living conditions and lifestyle habits through 28 captivating photographs.
The exhibition is on Oct, 12th - Oct, 25th at Lake House Art Center, Becroft Gallery. The Grand Opening is on Sunday October, 13th from 4 to 6 PM. Please bring your family, friends, and/or colleagues. We have enough capacity for a big crowd!
We will have karakia, speeches, catering, drinks, and a DJ!
These visual stories explore the intricate connections between brain health and environmental stewardship, emphasising the crucial role that a healthy environment plays in maintaining brain health and preventing conditions such as dementia later in life.
The project is conducted by Associate Professor Susanne Röhr from the School of Psychology at Massey University and Northshore-based professional photographer Alena Iakusheva, blending science and arts. The exhibition aims to raise awareness about the potential to enhance brain health and reduce the risk of dementia by addressing both lifestyle factors and broader environmental influences – a necessity in times of climate change.
Through this exhibition, viewers are invited to reflect on how sustainable living practices, our engagement with others and the environment can contribute to healthier brains and a healthier planet. This photovoice study is part of a research initiative on dementia prevention funded by the Health Research Council of New Zealand.
