From the late nineteenth century, tuberculosis was a major cause of death for New Zealanders. After the First World War returning soldiers doubled New Zealand’s T.B. numbers. Caring for these returned soldiers was part of the on-going war effort and hospitals were established, Pukeora becoming the largest. Major exhibition about the history of Pukeora Sanatorium, south of Waipukurau, Central Hawkes Bay.
