With the luxury of time, perhaps a lowered expectation, and some haze-inducing drugs, a kind of sublime, relaxed psychedelia can be the happy result when you see PURE perform 'live' in concert.
Originally formed in 2012 as a duo, 'pure' are a 3-piece band from Auckland, New Zealand who write and record their own material, creating a unique psychedelic sonic full band sound. PURE have released two new singles so far in 2024, '(it all) depends on you' released in July, and their brand new single 'pretty boy' (their take on Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds version of said song) is released on October 16 2024. Both are available on Spotify and Apple music. This will be PURE'S first visit to Gisborne.
Special guests Auckland's 'not THE CHURCH...but damn close' are no strangers to Smash Palace and they bring their tight and 'pretty damn close' authentic sound performing songs from Australia's THE CHURCH'. Auckland's radio 95bfm said 'if you've never got the chance to see the church 'live' in concert, then 'not the church...But damn close' are the next best thing, they do it so well". They are without doubt the best church tribute band in the world, and who says so? Band members from the church themselves.
And we'll let you in on a little secret, not the church...But damn close' and PURE are the same people, Paul Lightfoot and Steve Laffan, and PURE is their outlet for writing and recording their own material, which funnily enough does have a psychedelic 'churchy' sound to it. Catch PURE and not THE CHURCH...but damn close at Smash Palace, Sunday December 29 2024 from 5-8pm.
