About the Band

Following a hugely successful national tour in 2023 as a quartet, Cathy Irons (viola/violin) and Dan Robertson (keyboard) team up to perform light jazz classics, folk dance, passionate tangos and haunting ancient melodies.

Cathy Irons (violin) performs regularly in the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, including roles such as acting assistant concertmaster. She has performed in concerts, conferences and festivals in Europe, Japan, Australia and South Africa.

Her playing as been described by reviewers as “sonic fireworks that dazzle with all their brilliance” and “characterized by inspirational musicianship.” She has performed in the Cavell Leitch NZ Jazz and Blues Festival, the Dunedin Fringe Festival, Arrowtown Spring Arts Festival and the band was invited by Cavalcade Malborough Productions to perform in a combined concert with the Malborough Civic Orchestra. She has successfully toured her Jazz Quartet several times through South Island.

For the last 20 years Dan Robertson (piano) has been performing both in New Zealand and internationally. He has performed at the New Zealand Arts Festival, with his own trio at the Christchurch jazz festival and with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra for the Last Night of the Proms series. While in Melbourne Dan teamed up with award winning song writer Cam Giles-Webb and appeared on several of Cam’s albums as well as regular gigs at Dizzy’s Jazz Bar, The Paris Cat, The Melbourne International Jazz Festival, The Eltham Jazz Festival, and the Castlemain Jazz Festival. Dan has also performed with Trio’s in Seoul, The United States, and with a jazz quintet at the Aurillac Jazz Festival in France. His work as pianist in Trios and in Showbands on cruise ships has taken him to New York, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. Dan is also a classical pianist and a Fellow of both Trinity College London and Royal Schools of Music London.
