Auckland Council Parks, Ora New Zealand, Kaipātiki Project & Pest Free Kaipātiki INVITE YOU TO:
Discover Māori ways of knowing and doing
Feel the heartbeat of Papatūānuku
Be inspired by the wisdom of our ancestors
Matauranga Māori is the knowledge of the land from the people who belong to the land. It is the result of their interaction with the whenua over many generations. It is the knowledge they have accumulated by living on the land, working with the land, harvesting from the land, all the time listening, watching, caring, to ensure that they can continue to survive – Rob McGowan
Restoring our connections to the natural world is the key to unlocking our indigenous ways of knowing and doing. Wellbeing is more than the absence of disease. Wellness is derived by restoring vitality within people and place. Wellness is not a static state but more the art and science of always striving to find balance in a constantly evolving world
This programme is delivered in te taiao, the natural environment in which the knowledge originated. It upholds and treasures the mātauranga of rongoā that has been passed down over many centuries. This is the first step in our journey back to wellness. There is much for us to rediscover.
Join us to start our kōrero at the Takapuna Cricket Club (44 Northcote Road, Takapuna), followed by a walk in Smiths Bush. Bring packed lunch, water bottle and good walking shoes, as well as a raincoat if the weather is poor.
Restricted to 30 participants.
If you are bringing children with you who are under 16, they will need to supervised at all times, especially when the group leaves for the bush walk.
This is a very special free ticketed event, however if you wish to share a koha we are grateful to accept these. Donations will go towards sponsoring a nominated/deserving person to attend a weekend Wānanga to further this learning who may not otherwise be able to. A koha box will be at the event venue.
