The SG Allstars brings together some of the best musicians in the region for a special three hour concert of Blues music.
Different combinations of players will showcase The Blues in it’s many forms.The early acoustic echoes of the Mississippi Delta, raw Saturday night sounds from the deep South, the ‘50s city Blues of Chicago and Detroit, the ‘60s British Blues Boom, Blues Rock and original contemporary songs from Nelson.
The musicians:
Stephan Gilberg. Band leader/guitarist.
Toured NZ with Big Daddy Wilson and Greg Copeland. Formerly guitarist with The Hunter-Gilles Band, now plays with singer Ali Lenton and Dem Blues Boys.
Ivan Outram. Lead guitar/vocals.
Fronting The West Coast Blues Band, Ivan is a vastly experienced musician, fine vocalist and Nelson’s premier electric Blues guitarist.
Ali Lenton. Vocals.
Ali is fairly new to the Blues scene, but has established herself by stand-out performances with Stephan Gilberg and Alan Mills. Toured the South Island with The Barnstormers.
Steve Mitchell. Slide guitar/vocals.
Primarily a songwriter, Steve formed Humankindness before joining Sun City Soul. Now plays solo or with The Scintillators and Le Gumbo Combo.
Denny Allen. Vocals/guitar.
Lead singer with the hugely popular Jukejoint. Denny made his mark with previous Nelson favourites Denny & The Jets, The Boulder Bank Band and his solo gigs.
Alan Mills. Harmonica.
Alan’s natural Country Blues style is a big hit with local Blues fans. He’s a star soloist for Dem Blues Boys and Ali Lenton.
Warren Houston. Drums/vocals.
Wozz has been giggin for over 60 years - including 25 with Mike Garner. Currently drumming for Jukejoint,The Barnstormers and Katrina Kalill.
Jak Karaitiana, Bass/vocals.
A long-time key figure on the jazz scene, Jak has been the cornerstone of many of Nelson’s best bands. After a spell with Sun City Soul he now plays with The West Coast Blues Band, Le Gumbo Combo and The Nelson Jazz Band.
