Songwriters Showcase #98 - Joan Prior Awards Special

The Joan Prior Awards are run by Acoustic Routes the Wellington Folk Club to highlight the work folk-adjacent young performers. The lineup features Anna, Louis Gradwell, Lucy Summerfield, Zach Newton, and Ben Quayle.

Anna - My name is Anna and I am 20 years old and I am a country Music, Bluegrass singer and songwriter. I play the banjo and yodel every now and then. I love infusing my polynesian culture in Country music and Bluegrass spaces.

Louis Gradwell - Louis Gradwell is a singer-songwriter and the leader of the six-piece indie rock band Day Moon. With his trusty guitar Milly, Louis spends his nights writing song after song from life experiences. Biographical, yet catchy and relatable, the songs cover a diverse range of styles, unified by strong melodic hooks – as a solo act, Louis will be playing stripped back versions of tunes he writes for Day Moon.

Lucy Summerfield - Lucy Summerfield is a young singer-songwriter and waiata artist from Te Tauihu, now living in Pōneke. Her music is characterised by its emotional depth, storytelling and catchy melodies. Her ability to weave these together has seen her recognised nationally for her songwriting in both te reo Māori and English.

Zach Newton - Zach is a singer with a background of a variety of genres, and enjoys writing and producing music. He loves playing live and watching musicians around the Welly scene.

Ben Quayle - I am a singer/songwriter from Wellington New Zealand who is currently studying the Bachelor of music at Massey University. I'm 20 years old and have had a passion for music for most my life. I'm influenced by musicians such as Bob Dylan, Fred Neil, Tim and Jeff Buckley and so many more.
