November sees a group exhibition bringing together the unique talents of Peninsula personalities: Steve Helps, Dave Walker, and Frances de Latour. Each artist offers a distinct perspective, creating a rich and varied showcase.

Steve Helps explored Banks Peninsula as a child walked and worked the land and now paints these valleys and peaks in his retirement. Steve Helps is known for his unique ability to capture the myriad moods and hues of Peninsula landscapes and aims to depict this in his latest paintings named “Te Pataka o Rakaihutu”

Dave Walker was born in North Canterbury and grew up in various rural locations in the south island.. Following his schooling he travelled overseas for 3 years and returned to live in Nelson. I n 1986 he moved to Akaroa and now self-employed , established Nettle Creek Pottery as a studio and sales outlet.. His drawings and painting skills have formed a valuable partnership with his pottery making career. His paintings and drawings reflect his favourite places in the rural landscape.

Frances de Latour was taught art at school by Trevor Moffit. Her mother, a potter moved to Akaroa in her later years and both potted and painted exhibiting at the Orion Powerhouse Gallery. Frances, who has spent many years farming with her family on the peninsula had an abundance of old totora posts at her finger tips. Recently she has completed a preliminary course in wood carving and through this has had a wonderful time creating evocative garden art. However these pieces being too large to exhibit Frances has become known for her creative new art pieces.

This exhibition is open to the public from Saturday the 2nd November until Sunday 24th November 10am-4pm. The gallery is closed Mondays.

We look forward to seeing you at this wonderful exhibition.
