It’s twenty years since renowned Kiwi organist Kemp English released his first Stormin’ Norma CD - the first of Kemp’s trilogy of lauded discs showcasing the magnificent Dunedin Town Hall organ, affectionately known as Norma.
On Sunday 10th November at 3pm, Kemp will be reunited with his beloved Norma for a celebratory, not-to-be-missed Stormin’ Norma Anniversary Concert. Packed with the usual mix of high-octane musicianship and quirky humour - a hallmark of his performances for decades - Kemp will introduce and perform a programme of glorious, thrilling, soothing and thunderous music from the Stormin’ Norma trilogy. Kemp has always believed organ concerts can be and should be fun and show off The King of Instruments to maximum effect. With works by Bach, Saint-Saens, Rawsthorn, Lithgow, Takle and Lefebure-Wely, there will be something for every musical taste.
Kemp’s special guest for the concert will be violinist Yuka Eguchi (Assistant Concertmaster of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra). Yuka and Kemp will perform music written for them by the Norwegian composer Mons Leidvin Takle, along with an enchanting Benedictus by W.S. Lloyd-Webber.
