Taranaki Sustainable Backyards Trail

This year marks a significant milestone for the Sustainable Backyards Trail movement in Taranaki: its 10th year of showcasing resourceful, resilient and environmentally-focussed gardeners and inspiring others to make change in their own backyard.

Backyards are open 10am-4pm both weekends, as well as selected midweek times. There are 40+ events including workshops, talks and tours, including events at community and school gardens.
The following week, the inaugural Builds and Farms Trails (11-17 Nov) kicks off, offering set-time tours and talks on a range of topics.

Backyard visits are $3 cash (concession card available), host workshops and talks are by koha.

Backyards are for everyone.
Check the website and booklet for wheelchair-accessible backyards and those with dedicated activities for kids. There’s also an audio-described tour for a low-vision audience, and backyards with places to lock your bike.
