This is a 1.5 day workshop is aimed at people with an interest in dye and screen printing, preferably with a little experience in both. We will go through the process of making japanese rice pase resists and making print pastes with manutex and procion dye, printing with hand cut stencils.
These dyes are suitable for printing on cellulose fibres not protein, we will NOT be covering printing on silk or wool.
We will go through the process of making japanese rice pase resists and working with Procion dye thickened with Manutex.
On day 1 we will mix up our manutex print paste and make our rice paste resist, hand cut our stencils, and print our rice paste resists to give them time to dry overnight.
Day 2 will cover dye safety handling and mixing with manutex, painting our dye over our rice paste resists, printing with manutex and dye, and cover how to wash out our textiles afterwards.
You will leave with your textile samples ( linen fabric supplied), your stencils and print outs of the recipes used and a list of where to purchase the ingredients. 10-4 sat, 10-1 sunday. Maximum 4 students.
