The ‘New’ River City Jazzmen

Following the constraints of Covid, a number of confronting life challenges to some members of the band and the sad passing of our beloved trombonist, Tony Lewis, the River City Jazzmen have bounced back with renewed vigour.
They guarantee to maintain their dedication to authentic Dixieland standards whilst embracing a range of inviting rhythms and their own interpretations of some well-known numbers. The River City Jazzmen welcome in particular the latest addition to the band, Glyn MacDonald, a native of Western Australia, whose talents reach beyond the trombone to the keyboards.

The RCJ have just completed a stellar week in April when, following a sell-out concert in the Great Hall, they travelled to Central Otago for grass-root plaudits from appreciative audiences in Roxburgh, Wanaka and Cromwell.

This event is part of The Arts Centre's Jazz Club. Combining an unforgettable venue with music that sparkles, The Arts Centre Jazz Club delivers an authentic jazz lovers' experience. Funk, big band, traditional, experimental, tango, and more, the Jazz Club will showcase the best of Ōtautahi's rich jazz scene.
