Auckland Libraries’ new exhibition, Waiwaia ngā ngutu (Speak Eloquently) showcases te reo Māori, exploring the richness of the language through the taonga from Auckland Libraries Heritage Collections. In celebration of this exhibition, please join us on Thursday September 12 from 6-7 pm for Waiwaiā: Shilo Kino in conversation with Hēmi Kelly.
Shilo Kino (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Maniapoto) is an award-winning author whose recently published novel All That We Know follows Māreikura as she works to reclaim her te reo Māori while also navigating personal relationships and a growing public profile. Shilo will be in conversation with Hēmi Kelly, (Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Tahu, Ngāti Whāoa) author of A Māori Word a Day, A Māori Phrase a Day, translator, and host of the Everyday Māori Podcast. A Māori language teacher, Hēmi started learning te reo Māori as a teenager and is a passionate advocate for the revitalisation of te reo Māori.
