The Warsaw Uprising Powstanie Warszawskie was a major World War II operation by the Polish underground resistance, led by the Home Army, to liberate Warsaw from occupation. The uprising was fought for 63 days with little outside support, although dangerous air drops were made by the RAF including the Polish 301 Bomber Squadron, the South African Air Force and the US Air Force. It was the single largest military effort undertaken by any European resistance movement during World War II.
This image commemorates children who fought and died in the uprising.
