Experience the rising stars of chamber music at the Adam Summer School Finale Concerts.
The annual Adam Summer School for Chamber Music is an opportunity for up to 30 talented young violin, viola, cello and piano players to commit themselves to eight days of intensive chamber music-making. Surrounded by their peers and in the idyllic setting of Nelson in summertime, students attend coaching sessions and masterclasses by the New Zealand String Quartet and, in 2025, renowned New Zealand pianist Rae De Lisle. This is an opportunity for young classical musicians to connect with each other and to learn from and be inspired by professional musicians.
These two finale concerts are a chance for students to showcase a week’s worth of intensive training within their new ensemble.
Over the past 31 years, more than 400 students have attended the Adam Summer School. Many of these alumni have gone on to illustrious careers in classical music all over the world. Don’t miss out on your opportunity to experience the next generation of Aotearoa chamber musicians in action.
Adam Summer School tutors for 2025:
Gillian Ansell, New Zealand String Quartet Violist
Peter Clark, New Zealand String Quartet Violinist
Malavika Gopal, Guest Violin Tutor
James Bush, Guest Cello Tutor
Rae De Lisle, Guest Piano Tutor
The 2025 School will be a particularly special experience for students as, for the first time in Adam Summer School history, a past student is returning as a guest tutor. Malavika Gopal, who attended the Summer School as a student in 2003, 2004 and 2005 will return as the Guest Violin Tutor. We’re incredibly excited to have her return in this full circle moment and share her impressive career with our Class of 2025.
There will be two concerts on Sunday 16th Feb. Half of the students will perform at 3pm, the other half will perform at 7pm.
The 2025 Adam Summer School is generously supported the Adam Foundation (principal sponsors), Creative New Zealand, Pub Charity, NZ Community Trust, and a core group of generous individuals who have sponsored students to attend.
