As the high priestess of the Punk movement of the 1970s, the last place Westwood could be expected to have found inspiration was in one of the greatest repositories of aristocratic excess – London’s Wallace Collection. In this talk art historian David Maskill examines the impact of French eighteenth-century paintings, furniture and porcelain on Westwood’s rich post-Punk career.

About David Maskill

David Maskill is an art historian with a special interest in French art of the eighteenth century and print culture. He studied art history at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London before returning to his native New Zealand to take up an academic position at Victoria University of Wellington and where he taught from 1993-2019. He is the founder of Mariette Prints and publishes on prints and print dealing and collecting in leading journals such as Print Quarterly.
