SATURDAY, 5 APRIL 7:30 PM OHAU HOUSE CONCERT
'One of our most potent songwriters', Charlotte Yates is a New Zealand independent singer-songwriter with a decent sized catalogue of solo and collaborative work, including four poetry-to-song projects devoted to the work of James K Baxter, Hone Tuwhare, Witi Ihimaera & Katherine Mansfield. She's released seven solo albums, including 1991's Queen Charlotte Sounds, which features the APRA Silver Scroll finalist single, "Red Letter" and contributed to a growing catalogue of 14 compilations, performing extensively throughout Australasia. Charlotte studied Contemporary Music Technology and Composition at La Trobe University in Melbourne, and Commercial Songwriting through Berklee College of Music, in the US. Charlotte has also composed for short film, web A/V projects, and television.
Charlotte's songwriting coaching service, Song Doctor, was launched in 2016 and she has presented numerous workshops, seminars and retreats as well coaching an online clientele. She is a frequent contributor to US/UK music education sites Soundfly, Musician on a Mission and Bandzoogle. (Source: Toroa Toi te Arapūoru)
She celebrates the release of new work in the form of a brand new seven-track EP, Winter’s Eye accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Show Pony aka the fabulous Swiss Army knife of NZ music. Charlotte's edgy lyrics and idiosyncratic guitar style are well-matched with Show Pony's enviable bag of musical tricks - trumpet, violin, backing vocals and a taste of percussion - although probably not all at the same time. A great night of original song and talent. The new album can be pre-saved on Charlotte's website. More Info: charlotteyates.com
