CJC: Lucas Kewell & Friends (Europe/NZ)

Pianist Lucas Kewell returns for a trip home, bringing some friends he’s met through his studies in Switzerland, and introducing them to his old friends from Aotearoa: Zoltan Fekete from Hungary on drums and Slovenian vocalist Neža Ozinger are joined by locals Toby Barrett on sax, with bassist Tyler Diprose.

Embarking on a North Island tour that blends original jazz with influences from contemporary classical and filmic music - the band aims to evoke an image or tell a story, often exploring themes of the human experience, through new and old compositions.

Lucas has been studying in Basel for two years; learning from some incredible piano teachers, including Shai Maestro, Malcolm Braff, Aaron Parks, Kit Downes and Kris Davis.

This band is a combination of very special people, and after all, music is about who you play with.
