As summer’s warmth draws near, prepare to experience the Clevedon Art Trail Open Studio Event. The Artists, Creators and Makers in Clevedon have been busy creating artwork and gearing up for this popular annual event, now in its ninth year! It’s all happening on the weekend of March 15th and 16th 2025. The festivities commence a day earlier with an Art Trail Exhibition Opening on Friday March the 14th, from 5-8 pm at Hallertau - Clevedon. This preview will tease your artistic senses with a sneak peek of what’s in store for The Clevedon Art Trail over the weekend.
The Clevedon Art Trail, situated just a half-hour drive from the bustling heart of Auckland, beckons as an idyllic self-drive journey into the heart of authentic rural New Zealand. Awaiting visitors are Open Studios, free live artist demonstrations, immersive workshops, and captivating exhibitions, all within easy reach in Clevedon.
Art industry: James and Cheryl Wright’s gallery in Clevedon Village showcases the unique work of 35 established and emerging artists. A brief stroll up the road leads to Clevedon Creatives + Co, throughout the weekend, this space will come alive with demonstrations.
Down the Alleyway and up the stairs Gracie Matthews- Costumier, will be in her new studio, where you can try your hand at vintage hand-crank sewing. Visit Helen Morrison at The District Center, an artist known for expressive landscape paintings. She will be running a free Landscape Painting Workshop at 12- 2pm on Saturday, limited spaces available, to book email morrison.helen@gmail.com. Also at the District center will be Ana Ter Huurne with her works, an artist inspired by indigenous tees, birds and natural clay pigments in Te Wairoa.
At 331 North Road, you will find the Gallery and Studio of Katie Blundell Artist. See her contemporary artwork and creative space. Join her for a Free Drawing workshop 10-11am, no booking needed. In the same driveway, you will find Riverhaven Artland. Walk the 40-acre sculpture Park guided by the trail map. McNicol homestead showcases the Clevedon Art Group’s talent in a historic setting. Here enticing hands on painting activities are offered from 10am-12pm each day. View Ginny Fishers exhibition at The Wild Fermentary’s Soda Door, Ginny Fisher fuses photography, painting and printmaking into her practice which explores her connection to the natural world. Here, also enjoy a refreshing fermented beverage, a great place to refuel between artists.
New to the Clevedon Art Trail is Sandy Littlejohns-Clark, visit her at Vin Alto, she paints using bold colours and dynamic imagery. She will be holding a Free workshop 10-12pm Sunday- ‘Landscape of Significance’ limited spaces available, to book email clarkx@xtra.co.nz. Back in the village visit Hallertau to wander through the Clevedon Art Trail Exhibition and while you are there, grab a bite to eat.
Up Moumoukai Hill Road throughout the weekend knifemaker Bruce Stuart will be demonstrating various aspects of knifemakers art. Saturday 8am- 4pm Knifemaking workshop. To book visit www.lostarts.co.nz fees apply.
On Saturday only, check out Pop-Up Printmaking with Toni Mosley, who will be at the Farm House Café 10-12pm, where you can make a monotype to take home with you for free.
On Sunday, visit Helen Dorresteyn at the Farmers Market, who will host an exhibition of her own and other ceramic artists works.
These are all the wonderful, inspiring people and places you can visit during the Clevedon Art Trail. The Opening Exhibition is on Friday 14th March 5-8 pm and the Open Studio Event is on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th March 2025, 10 am-4 pm each day.
