About Professor Karyn Paringatai's research

Karyn is a lecturer in Te Tumu – School of Māori, Pacific and Indigenous Studies at the University of Otago, where she obtained her BA (Hons), MA and PhD degrees. Her teaching and research interests are in a number of areas that intersect at various points that are grounded in te reo Māori and tikanga Māori. She has expertise in the creation, application and transmission of mātauranga Māori across a variety of different subject areas. In 2014 she was the recipient of the Prime Ministers Supreme Award for Tertiary Teaching Excellence, and in 2023 was awarded the Prime Ministers Science Prize as a member of the Hereditary Diffuse Gastric Cancer Research Team.

This lecture will be followed with light refreshments, tea, coffee and juice.
