Experience the beautiful love songs of the Baroque period with a fascinating mixture of emotional depth and artistic melodies. Great arias such as “Sol da te mio” dolce amore from Vivaldi’s “Orlando Furioso”, Scarlatti’s dramatic “Dormi o fulmine di Guerra” or Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Aus Liebe” from the St. Matthew Passion or “Le doux silence de nos bois” by Honoré d’Ambruys make the evening a sensitive concert experience with haunting poetry and wonderful harmony.

Magdalena Pikuta, soprano

Jonathan le Cocq, theorbo, Baroque guitar
Tim Emerson, harpsichord

Come and join us for the 18th International Akaroa Music Festival split between wonderful Akaroa and the ‘The Piano’ event centre in Christchurch.
For the 2025 series, we have created an exciting programme, featuring NZ’s most accomplished musicians as well as fabulous international guest artists.
An array of national and international guest artists will present concerts ranging from classical to jazz, from Irish folk to baroque music, from Opera to Vivaldi’s famous 4 Seasons presented by our resident cello ensemble. We truly think that we have something for everyone in this year’s festival.
As every year, we will bring stellar young talented from NZ and Australia along, performing in a lunchtime concert series at ‘The Piano’ and getting the opportunity to be working with our high calibre international guests such as Magdalena Pikuła from the Warsaw Chamber Opera. We can’t wait to start the festival and are hoping to have you all as our guests.
