ABOUT ŌTARI RARANGA
We are committed to nurturing the mātauranga (knowledge) and pūkenga (skills) of our growing weaving community.
Led by Linda Lee (Ngāti Kurī, Te Rarawa, Te Aupōuri, Ngāti Huia, Ngāti Raukawa) and Frank Topia (Ngā Puhi, Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Haua) with support from our kaiāwhina; Anna Lees (Te Āti Awa), Genevieve Rae, and Béatrice Désy.
Ōtari Raranga was established during Covid lockdown in 2021. It began as a beginner series of classes aiming to revitalise traditional raranga practices and build community in the surrounding suburbs of Ōtari-Wilton’s Bush.
Some tauira (students) have been attending since 2021 and now dedicate time to kaiāwhina (support) beginners during class, preserving and caring for our Pā Harakeke, contributing to Ōtari Open Day festivities and the many other communevents we are involved in.
Wānanga held at Ōtari are based on a koha style of payment.
