The Solomon Islands is gearing up to host the prestigious Miss Pacific Islands 2025 Pageant in Honiara, following their successful bid. The announcement was made by Ms. Joyce Konofilia, the Pageant Director of Miss Solomon Islands, who is also a Board member and Judge at the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant.
Ms. Konofilia expressed her excitement upon receiving the confirmation from Nauru, stating that she is thrilled to return to her home country and begin the preparations for the event. "The bid submission was a collaborative effort, involving both public and private sectors. My team and I, with the support of the caretaker government, including the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Women, Youth, and Family Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, and the Prime Minister’s Office, made this possible," she explained.
A detailed timeline of events has been planned, leading up to the main event in 2025. Ms. Konofilia is set to engage with all stakeholders and establish a working committee to oversee the pageant's organization.
Last year, Solomon Islands did not host the Miss Solomon Islands pageant due to the Pacific Games, which also meant they did not participate in the current Miss Pacific Islands Pageant in Nauru. "Our primary sponsor was also a major supporter of the Pacific Games, which impacted our ability to secure funding for the pageant. However, this year we plan to hold the national pageant in the third or fourth quarter to ensure a strong representative for the 2025 Miss Pacific Islands event," she added.
Ms. Konofilia anticipates a competitive Miss Solomon pageant this year, aiming to elevate the standards of their contestant for the upcoming Miss Pacific Islands Pageant.
The Solomon Islands previously hosted the Miss Pacific Islands pageant in 2013, where the title was claimed by Cook Islands. Despite hosting the event, Solomon Islands has yet to win the title since the pageant's inception in 1987. Cook Islands holds the record with eight titles, followed by Samoa with seven, American Samoa with six, and Fiji and Papua New Guinea each with three.
With the 2025 pageant on the horizon, the Solomon Islands is eager to make a notable impact and potentially secure their first win in this esteemed competition.
