The Elephant in the Room
Breffni O’Rourke (Whakatū Nelson)

“Seriously? Did that actually happen? Or did the writer make that up?” development feedback

Got a tiny secret? Something that “happened on tour” that needs to “stay on tour”? Something that might change how your partner might see you if they knew?
Come meet the elephant in Andy’s room. It’s wild. This play is a local story, inspired by actual events.

The Elephant In The Room is former radio host Breffni O’Rourke’s first play and is based on a local story that the she was told that had her jaw hitting the floor. She’s sharing that story in a play, so that you too can wonder if you also might have an elephant sitting in room.

It’s a kiwi story of an unexpected OE, adventures, young love and some shocking truths.
As the story unfolds, between the laughs and the yarns, you can decide where the truth lies and whether you can learn to love the Elephant In The Room.
*Contains adult themes & traces of nuts.

“What? Wait! Was the elephant a metaphor or was that bit real?”
“That was funny! I am going to think of this show any time someone says the number 120, and I will probably laugh.”
“Can I tell you about something that happened on my OE? I reckon I could give you a sequel!”

We could not do this without the support of Nelson Fringe Festival and funding from Nelson City Creative Communities Scheme. Biggest thanks must go to the real Tina, Mark, Andy and Kath for letting Breffni tell their story.
