May is celebrated as New Zealand’s music month every year, and for the first time in Hamilton, Waikato Rocks is celebrating by inviting nine music groups from all around New Zealand to perform at this historic event.
The performers:
Luger Boa is the brainchild of Jimmy Christmas, former singer/guitarist for internationally successful NZ garage rockers The D4. Jimmy reimagined himself as a character he likens to a James Bond villain or a sci-fi hitman while retaining the onstage flair and energy that made The D4 one of the country’s most exciting live acts. His newly found character and inspiration resulted in the pseudonym Luger Boa, a name bearing the yin-yang qualities of something metallic and organic – a Luger pistol and a snake. Don’t dare miss the raw, unbridled, rock’ n’ roll power of Jimmy Christmas.

Danny Rascal has a live career comprising appearances at major events and supporting NZ and International artists, such as HLAH, Weta, The Datsuns, Luger Boa, Devilskin, LA Guns, Quiet Riot, Buckcherry, and Creed! Danny has crafted a legacy of catchy, hook-laden tunes, which have finally been compiled onto an album, and will be touring throughout NZ and Australia this year, including dates with Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Donnie Vie the voice of Enuff Z’Nuff and Alex Kane Life, Sex, and Death/ Handsome Dick Manitoba/Alice Cooper!
Tablefox is a dynamic four-piece Indie Rock sensation from Auckland. Their debut album, OBJECTS, captivated audiences both locally and internationally. March 2023 was an electrifying whirlwind for Tablefox. They shared stages with Irish icons Ash, igniting sold-out crowds at Tuning Fork and San Fran. They supported UK legends Inspiral Carpets on their NZ tour and the British legends RIDE at a packed Powerstation. Their song Where Do I Belong? has now reached #1 on the NZ Rock Chart and sees the band with two songs on the chart simultaneously!
Tony Lee is an Alternative Country Rock artist from Hamilton. Tony has been internationally recognised with his music video for All That A Man Can Do making it to the semi-finals in the International Songwriting Competition and getting nominated in the music category at the Limelight Film Awards in London. His single Stand Up And Fight has made the Australian Country airplay charts and the Tasmanian Country Chart. Tony performed at the Tamworth Country Music Festival in 2019 on the Toyota International Stage alongside NZ legends Brendan Dugan, Eddie Low, Kevin Greaves and Aly Cook!
MEDUSA GLARE is an exciting and powerful Hamilton rock group. Pulling influences from bands such as Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, Medusa Glare harnesses key elements of the greats, blended with their own unique voice, to create a contemporary rock sound with a deep and authentic vibe. Powerful drum sound and solid playing style, combined with rich, driving guitar tones, powerful, melodic vocals, and pumping groove-soaked basslines, are reminiscent of a time when Rock n Roll was the undisputed King.
Dead Empire is a four-piece original prog rock band based in Mount Maunganui. Exploring unique time signatures paired with catchy song lyrics, Dead Empire brings an energetic presence to any type of audience. Teaming up with artists across NZ, Dead Empire aims to break stereotypes of fitting into specific genres of music.
Rise the Wicked (RTW) is an electrifying five-piece Rock and Metal band from the Waikato. Their debut album, State of Oblivion, quickly attracted a dedicated fanbase with its high-energy guitar-driven sound, intense rhythms, commanding vocals, and powerful lyrics.
Intercity is an alternative/grunge/rock band from the Kapiti Coast, Wellington, consisting of four teenagers! Their song ‘Ode To Beer’ will surely surprise you and leave you with a wow!
Hoon is a hardcore band featuring five students from Hillcrest High School in Hamilton. Their music is known for its aggressive, direct, and harsh vocals.
