Tāmaki Makaurau artist Wiremu Cowell’s first solo exhibition titled ‘Poipoia te Kākano Kia Puāwai / Nurture the seed and it will blossom’ follows his journey and the growth of his artistic practice since displaying art publicly for the first time in August 2023. Guided by the whakataukī: Poipoia te kākano kia puāwai, Wiremu reflects on how nurturing his skills and techniques, along with his dedication to art, has played a significant role in his hauora (well-being).
Using fine lines and intricate details, Wiremu’s work explores themes of whakapapa, Māori pūrākau (stories), cultural values, and indigenous identity.
This exhibition is split between The Good The Bad & Everybody Eats @ Tātou in Glen Innes, and is supported by TGTB Charitable Trust and Tāmaki Regeneration Company.
Opening celebration on Sat 15 March, 12-2pm @ The Good The Bad
