Inspired by recent astrological events and the Puanga Matariki season, it invites audiences to journey through portals of time—past, present, and emerging. As Matariki shines, the prospects of a new year. Portals to Venus II evokes an immersive dance experience of remembrance, presence, love and connection.
Portals to Venus II, is a dance performance like no other, featuring Artistic Director and Dancer Sharyne Lewis. and new dancers Seonaid Lyons and Veronika Morrison and JB from studio 11 productions. This performance is not to be missed.
ABOUT SHARYNE LEWIS:
Multidisciplinary Artist Sharyne Lewis presents Portals to Venus II- Calla Lily digital dance drawings as choreographic scores and visual artworks in her multimedia dance performance 'Portals to Venus II'. This is the second presentation of her research to date, combining digital dance drawings, dance notation symbols, choreography, interactive video projection and live dance.
Sharyne's performance and research on digital dance drawing and choreographic scores was presented at the prestigious International Science Arts and Electronic Conference (ISEA) in June 2024. Portals to Venus was part of the Alternative Reality Gardening Lab 2024 – a creative innovation event by transdisciplinary studio AwhiWorld. It was part of the year-long capacity-building Awhi Incubator Project funded by the Ministry of Culture and Heritage and Creative New Zealand.
Important Information:
- LATE ENTRY IS NOT PERMITED, PLEASE ARRIVE 20MINS EARLY. IF YOU ARRIVE LATE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ENTER THE VENUE:
- This performance uses projection, lights, sound and movement, the audience must remain seated for the duration of the performance.
- The event will be photographed and filmed for documentation and funding purposes
- You are welcome to bring children over 10 years old, provided that they are quiet and respectful of the audience and performance.
- This may mean that this performance is not suitable for very young children and babies.
- If you are unwell, particularly if you are prone to extended coughing or sneezing, please rest up and a recording of the performance will be available after the event.
- We will share your contact details with the artist, Sharyne Lewis for the purpose of notifying you about this event and others in future.
