In this Pounamu Carving workshop you will learn about the many practices associated with Māori arts.

You will learn the design and carving techniques needed to create your own unique Pounamu marama (moon) taonga and all in this one day workshop. You will use diamond wheels, drills, wet and dry sanding, and polishing tools, to create a Pounamu pendant under the watchful guidance of artist/tutor Maha Tomo. Once your Pounamu pendant is complete you will learn some traditional Polynesian braiding and lashing techniques to complete the pendant ready to wear. This is a contemporary Tikanga based workshop and suitable for ages 12+

WHO IS THE WORKSHOP SUITABLE FOR:
This Pounamu Carving workshop workshop is for beginners who want to learn how to make a unique and contemporary Pounamu Taonga

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
skills in using hand tools safely
traditional braiding and lashing techniques used in a contemporary manner
how to make your own Taonga pendant

a completed Pounamu pendant, ready to wear or give
