Nelson’s favourite track is back - and it’s better than ever. After a smooth move from Halifax Street, the pump track has landed in its brand-new home at Founders Heritage Park, and we’re throwing a proper opening celebration to kick things off.

Set between the Windmill and Duncan House, this freshly laid track is ready to welcome bikes, scooters and skateboards of all shapes and sizes. It’s a place where kids, teens, and even the young at heart can test their balance, boost their confidence, and most importantly, have a blast.

From 11am to 1pm, we’re inviting the whole community to come along and help us mark the occasion. The official ribbon-cutting, with Mayor Nick Smith doing the honours at 11am sharp, will get things rolling, but the real fun starts when the wheels hit the track.

This is a free, family-friendly event with plenty to enjoy beyond the ride. There’ll be free face painting for the kids, tasty treats from an ice cream cart, and a good old-fashioned sausage sizzle run by a local charity. It’s a celebration of community, fun, and the simple joy of riding in circles - really fast.

Whether you're new to pump tracks or have been counting the days until this one reopened, this event is for you. The track is suitable for all ages and skill levels. Balance bikes, scooters, BMX and mountain bikes are all welcome. Just don’t forget your helmet - safety gear is a must.

What makes this event special isn’t just the brand-new location or the smooth curves of the track. It’s the chance to come together as a community, right in the heart of one of Nelson’s most iconic heritage spaces. Founders Park has always been a place to explore and imagine, and now it’s also a place to ride, race, and roll.

The event will go ahead rain or shine - though we’ll take it a bit easier on the corners if the weather’s wet. There’s plenty of space to hang out, so pack a picnic or explore the other attractions at the park once you’ve had your turn on the track.

Thanks to the support of Nelson City Council and heaps of hard work from local legends behind the scenes, the pump track’s new home is here to stay. It’s been designed to offer a safe, fun and free space for active play, and we can’t wait to see it buzzing with life.

So dust off your wheels, rally your friends and family, and come be part of this wheelie fun day out. Let’s celebrate movement, momentum, and making memories - one lap at a time.
