This workshop is designed for those new to sculpting, offering a comprehensive foundation in this timeless art form. You’ll start with the basics of working with clay, explore the process of building armatures, and discover essential techniques for moulding and casting. Unlike ceramics, this workshop focuses on traditional sculpting methods that can be applied to mediums like bronze or plaster. You’ll also learn how to select the right materials, maintain your sculptures, and use a variety of sculpting tools from our experienced artist and tutor Shona Lyons.

Throughout the course, you’ll work on two exciting projects. Your first creation will use oil-based clay supported by a 12-inch armature, ideal for crafting intricate, detailed designs. For your second project, you’ll switch to water-based, air-dried clay, which doesn’t require an armature. Whether you finish your sculptures during the workshop or complete them at home, these one-of-a-kind pieces are yours to keep and display proudly.
