Seaweed Fest 2025: Whānau Festival Farewell & Snorkel

Join us for a fun filled whānau day at Worser Bay to celebrate the end of Seaweed Fest 2025. There’ll be snorkelling, talks, on-shore activities, art making, a sandcastle competition, rimurimu ice cream and even a few sea shanties! Bring a picnic and join us on the beach to close out our inaugural Seaweed Fest!

Full Programme:

Seaweed Snorkelling:
Explore the first seaweed restoration site in Te Whanganui-a-Tara with a guided snorkel. Sessions leave at 12, 1.15 and 2.30pm from Worser Bay Boat Club. $20pp, includes a copy of our seaweed guide to take away. Pre-bookings are essential. Seaweed Tours:
Meet the Love Rimurimu team and learn about our wonderful native seaweeds. Free, no booking necessary. Tours leave from the Love Rimurimu tent. main beach, 12.30 & 1.30pm

Make a Cyanotype:
Learn how to make a cyanotype (a print using a light-based technique) and take home a special seaweed memento. Koha, Inside Worser Bay Boat Club, 12-3pm

Meet the Seaweeds:
Meet your local seaweeds. Chat with experts and learn about the underwater forests of Wellington. Love Rimurimu tent, main beach, 12-3pm

Sandcastle Competition:
Ever made a speed sandcastle? Show us your sandcastle building skills and go in the draw to win some awesome prizes. BYO sandcastle building equipment! Competitions happening at main beach, 1.30pm and 2.15pm

Seaweed Shanties:
The Pōneke Shanty Club will be joining us for some shore-side shanties. Bring a picnic down and join in! Main beach, 1pm

Seaweed Icecream!:
We'll have some delicious seaweed icecream to give away, come down early so you don't miss out! Inside Worser Bay Boat Club, 12-3pm
