Join Woolston Brass under the baton of Music Director Phil Johnston for an unforgettable evening of captivating music, featuring a programme that celebrates the brilliance of brass and the artistry of remarkable composers.

The evening opens with the exhilarating "Brigands Orgy" by Hector Berlioz, arranged by Philip Harper—a fiery and dramatic overture that will sweep you into its thrilling narrative.

Woolston Brass is honoured to welcome and present Thomas Eves, an extraordinary trumpet soloist, performing the timeless Trumpet Concerto by Alexander Arutunian. Expect virtuosity and expressive beauty as Thomas brings this iconic work to life.

Christchurch native Thomas Eves began playing trumpet and cornet at the age of six. His musical journey was shaped by the Woolston Brass Band family and enriched through his involvement with the NZ Secondary Schools Brass Bands, National Youth Bands, and the National Band of NZ, providing a strong foundation for his exceptional career. Now serving as Principal Trumpet of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, Thomas has performed with professional orchestras across New Zealand, Australia, and the UK. A graduate of the University of Canterbury with First Class Honours and the Royal College of Music in London, where he earned a Master of Performance with Distinction, Thomas is celebrated for his extraordinary talent and dedication to his craft.
Following the interval, immerse yourself in the poignant and enchanting "Adagio from Enchanted Dance Hall" by New Zealand composer Ken Young, a piece brimming with lyrical charm.

The evening crescendos with Philip Sparke's masterful "Harmony Music", a rich tapestry of textures and emotions, showcasing the full power and versatility of Woolston Brass.

Don’t miss this spectacular celebration of brass artistry!
