Squiggla™ Experimental Mark Making and Collage Family Workshop
Sunday 12 Jan 1.30pm-3.30pm
$30 per child
Squiggla is a creative mark-making programme. Hands, eyes, hearts and minds get a workout as Squiggla helps you exercise your own creative thinking potential and keeps you creatively fit!
Squiggla is all about exploring the visual language of dots and lines right on the page as you:
Invent and imagine by putting your creative thinking into action
Generate new visual ideas with play and curiosity
Break free of ‘art expectations’ and slow your mind to enjoy the creative process
Compose on the page as marks dance, jaunt, cluster and wander
In this workshop we will be using the concept of experimental, playful mark making. Mark making is a fundamental part of Squiggla and plays an important role in the Chartwell Collection. We will also be using collage which has a big part to play in Squiggla making. It is a great way to synthesise different materials and ideas to create other ideas or elements which wouldn’t have happened without the first ones. Squiggla is designed as a non-judgemental activity for people of all ages from youngsters to adults and families.
Bookings are essential with a maximum of 20 places available, book on the gallery website. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Slow Looking with Visual Music
Wednesday 22 January
5-7pm $55 per person
Join us for Slow Looking with Visual Music, an in-gallery Squiggla workshop where we make sense of the senses through hands-on free flow mark making. As Evan Woodruffe, artist and collector said ‘There are weapons in this world, but art is the antithesis of that. It’s something that builds up; it’s something that makes our hearts soar.’
In response to the works in the exhibition, workshop participants will be guided to engage with their senses and explore connections between music and mark making.
Using slow looking, Squiggla’s focus is on visual exploration, intuitive compositions and improvised ideas. The workshop will be accompanied by jazz music with drinks and refreshments provided.
This workshop is suitable for adults 18 years and over.
Bookings are essential and managed by the Gallery. Maximum of 20 places available. Visit the gallery website to book.
