The Chinese in Dunedin - Screening
A conversation with Seán Brosnahan and Peter Chin
For those unable to make it to the live in person conversation on Wednesday 22 January between Peter Chin and Sean Brosnahan, this screening is a recording of the event The Chinese in Dunedin.
As we step forward into the Year of the Snake, it’s time to look back at the history of Dunedin’s Chinese population. View this pre-recorded conversation between Peter Chin and Seán Brosnahan at Toitū as they discuss stories of the people and places that have shaped the Chinese community in Dunedin over the last 160 years.
Peter Chin is descended from early Chinese immigrants, served as Mayor of Dunedin, and was chair of both the Dunedin Chinese Garden Trust and the Chinese Poll Tax Heritage Trust. Seán Brosnahan is a museum curator at Toitū Otago Settlers Museum and wrote and presented the documentary series The Journey to Lan Yuan, tracing the history of Chinese migration to Otago.
