“Resilience is the ability to experience trauma without it defining you. To ‘bounce back’
implies it is an inherent quality you either have, or don’t. In reality resilience is a set of skills
and mindsets that can be cultivated and nurtured. We can develop resilience. Neuroscience
gives us an additional perspective with which to view the development of resilience, as we
calm the emotional areas of the brain and help to bring ‘on-line’ the areas associated with
resilient traits in the frontal cortex. Nathan will explain resilience research in light of current
neuroscience research.”
Nathans talks are popular with parents, teachers, coaches, leaders and anyone else who is
interested in learning about the workings of the brain. Nathan has a profound reputation as a lively
and engaging speaker. He uses humour and plain language to condense 25 years of neuroscience
research into his unique ‘tell you how it is’ style. You’ll be absolutely captivated and walk away jam-
packed with more than a few “ah-ha” moments.
