Shruti Yatri and Patrick Malone have and been great friends since art school in the 1990's in this joint exhibition Homelands: When Worlds Collide, two great colourists present a vibrant rumination in paint.
Malone - "When Worlds Collide" is born from the intersection of two distinct worlds, both lived by a single life. One world is shaped by cancer; the other by painting. This collision creates a unique child—an idea, a vision—brought to life through the medium of painting. The work manifests as a vision of oneness, where cancer and art intertwine to form a unified expression.
Yatri - "these paintings are inspired by previous works from over the last twenty years with references to both the artist’s homes – India and New Zealand. There is no big story. In essence these works were made for the fun of it. They are some of my favourite motifs and I enjoyed the revisitation. Repeating images have always been an intrinsic part of my art oeuvre. And also the joy of making something beautiful out of ‘nothing’. The initial image becomes secondary as texture and colour take charge and the painting becomes its own reality
