Jason Kerrison

The band Opshop was formed by Invercargill born, Christchurch raised, singer/songwriter Jason Kerrison. He based himself in Auckland, writing music while at a residency in a backpacker's bar in Auckland.
In 2003 they signed with Siren/EMI and received a good deal of support from NZ on Air and New Zealand's broadcasting community.
Opshop finished their first album You Are Here in 2004. Over the following seven years, OPSHOP has become one of New Zealand’s best-loved bands, crafting a constant stream of massive hits and three multi platinum-selling albums, You Are Here, Second Hand Planet, and Until The End of Time
"Maybe" was the first single off the album Second Hand Planet, released in April 2007. With ”Maybe” they were the first New Zealand band to go to the #1 position on iTunes New Zealand. Beating out Mika, Regina Spektor, Avril Lavigne, Beyoncé & Shakira, The Fray, Silverchair, Fall Out Boy, Justin Timberlake and Snow Patrol.
A synch for New Zealand Post Shop with “One Day”, the final single off Second Hand Planet, meant instant nationwide recognition and being embedded in New Zealand’s musical psyche.
In 2009 NZ media reported that Boy George had developed a crush on Jason. The British singer posted a picture of the Kiwi rock band’s lewad singer on his Twitter page. He wrote: “Just discivered this cool band Opshop and the very cute vocalist Jase!”
Opshop have been voted New Zealand's favorite band according to readers of the EDC magazine. The poll was conducted on the 19th April, 2010, two days after they released their newest single "Pins and Needles."
Jason Kerrison has spent many years at the top of the NZ Music Scene with his band OPSHOP, enjoying not only commercial success, but also picking up numerous NZ Music Awards and the prestigious APRA Silver Scroll Award along the way.

In 2011, Kerrison was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) in the Queen's Birthday Honours, for Services to Music. This was attributed in part to the recognition of his initiative and organization of Band Together for Canterbury. A free concert by 34 artists attended by a reported 160,000 people in Hagley Park, and a gift for the Earthquake stricken people of the region.

Following the success of Opshop, Jason Kerrison formed The Babysitters Circus (TBC). The band is a four-piece New Zealand Electronica/Bass and Funk/Groove freak show that was born when the quartet began throwing sounds and ideas together while babysitting for Opshop’s manager.

It soon became apparent that what started out as simply a creative outlet for it’s members was too good to keep hidden away and it just felt wrong to not give everyone the chance to shake their shaky bits to tracks oozing with infectious fleshy hooks.

The Babysitters Circus have only one rule. Any track presented has to be danceable or it doesn’t make the cut.

In 2011-2012, their hit single Everything's Gonna Be Alright was listed for 35 weeks in the New Zealand and Dutch top 40 charts – its peak position was number 7 in Holland, and 8 in New Zealand. The song is currently the 5th most played song in the Nederland’s.
