The St Petersburg Ballet Theatre in association with Andrew Guild is delighted to announce Konstantin Tachkn's magnificent company of 55 exquisite dancers will return to New Zealand for the first time since their sell out National tour in 2000.
The SPBT will be performing Giselle in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch, and Swan Lake in Hamilton, Hastings and Wanganui.
Giselle is one of classical ballet's notable works. It was first performed in France at the Paris Opera in 1841 and one year later premiered in St Petersburg where the ballet was an immediate success. Giselle remains a benchmark for ballerinas, requiring technical skill and great acting ability. It also continues to be a favourite among audiences world wide.
Swan Lake, first performed in 1877 at the Bolshoi Theatre Moscow, is undoubtedly the most revered classic ballet of all time. With its magnificent Tchaikovsky score, Swan Lake is the jewel of the Russian classical repertoire. Pointe shoes and dazzling white tutus, the glamorous ballroom scene and the iconic white act by the lakeside make Swan Lake as danced by the St Petersburg Ballet Theatre an unforgettable experience.
