As the summer season moves into full bloom, there's plenty of scope for the green fingered among us to get stuck in.

The Ellerslie International Flower Show, the biggest event in the gardening calendar is here.

It's hard to define exactly why the gardening bug continues to bite and grip onto people - but it's quite clear that it's here to stay.

Featuring hundreds of stunning exhibits, thousands of colourful plants, garden art and market stalls, the Ellerslie International Flower Show is a show not to be missed.

It is the catwalk of the gardening world; it sets the latest trends, attracts worldwide media attention and is an event which attracts huge interest from specialists and enthusiasts alike. This annual event, which is becoming more and more popular each year, acts as a showcase for the most talented garden designers. The show gardens, displays and exhibits are always something special.

But it's not just about the flowers and garden displays - there is a good cause attached to the 5 day event which sees them coming from all over the world. The members of The Rotary Club of Auckland wanted to establish a unique fundraiser to raise money for local charities so they decided to host an event modeled on the famous Chelsea Flower Show in England. And so The Ellerslie Flower Show was born. It has distributed a total of $700,000 for charity since the first show in 1994.

Come rain or shine, the next few months are likely to be very busy for those inside the industry - as well as those who appreciate the efforts put into the displays.

Don't miss out on getting your fingers green over the next five days.  The show lasts until Sunday 18th November. Hours - 10:00am - 6:00pm.
