Dralion by Cirque du Soleil Premieres In Auckland, 9 July

Friday 13 February 2009

Auckland is set to be dazzled once again as Cirque du Soleil returns with the spectacular new show Dralion, proudly presented by Audi.

Never before seen in New Zealand, Dralion has thrilled more than 8 million people around the world and is currently wowing Australian audiences. The show will premiere on Thursday 9 July 2009 under the trademark blue and yellow Grand Chapiteau (Big Top) at Alexandra Park. Tickets for Dralion in Auckland go on sale on Monday 16 February.

Created and directed by Guy Caron, Dralion has been touring the world since April 1999 and continues to have great success wherever it goes. The show is a fusion of ancient Chinese circus traditions and the avant-garde approach of Cirque du Soleil. The name Dralion is drawn from its two main symbols—the dragon, representing the East, and the lion, representing the West. The cast of Dralion features a total of 65 artists from 14 countries - including a house troupe of 36 Chinese performers.

Dralion invites the audience on an extraordinary journey through its inspirational, mythical and unforgettable world. Dralion pays tribute to the four elements that maintain the natural order - air, water, fire and earth – and it is very much inspired by mankind’s quest for harmony with nature. This amazing production will define new heights of acrobatic creativity, culminating in unique and exciting acts that have never been seen before in Australia

“ . . . Thrilling and gravity-defying spectacle” (Daily Telegraph)

“Cirque du Soleil has previously toured to New Zealand with Alegria, Quidam and Varekai and performed to over 3.5 million people in the Australia/New Zealand region. Auckland enjoys a powerful relationship with Cirque du Soleil, and after shattering all previous attendance records in 2007 with Varekai, new levels of attendance and support are expected” commented Vice-President of Marketing for Cirque du Soleil in Asia, Milan Rokic.

Cirque du Soleil has implemented a new online revolutionary ticketing system for the Dralion tour, allowing users to purchase their own seats through a 3-D interface. So far, this new ticketing system has proven to be extremely popular with over 90% of tickets purchased directly online.
