Following the success of his Australasian tour in 2011, indie-synth-pop sensation Owl City, is returning to New Zealand with The Midsummer Station World Tour. Currently on the North American leg of his world tour, Owl City has confirmed that 19 year old singer-songwriter Jamie McDell will be the special guest for his Auckland show on Friday 16th November at the Powerstation.
Hailing from the northern surf town of Mangawhai, Jamie McDell has always surrounded herself with the simpler things in life, never straying too far from the beach, or her guitar. With a voice and lyrics that display an emotive, earnest nature similar to Taylor Swift and a song-writing style reminiscent of Hawaiian acoustic guitar folk-man Jack Johnson, Jamie McDell’s songs showcase a talent of one of the country’s most promising, up-and-coming songwriters. Her fast-moving online popularity and the success of her debut single ‘You’ll Never Take That Away’ was a revelation and confirmed the NZ public’s approval of her summery, honest pop songs.
After its release in February 2012 ‘You’ll Never Take That Away’ swiftly climbed to #9 on NZ’s overall airplay chart and spent 4 weeks at #1 on the NZ Singles chart, subsequently certified as a Gold single. Followed up with the release of her debut EP ‘All That I Wanted’ which debuted at #8 on the NZ album chart, with her current single ‘Rewind’ sitting at #2.
Now, as events have transpired and the planets align, the timing couldn’t be better and is perfect for Jamie, as Friday 16th November is also the same day that she releases her debut album ‘Six Strings and a Sail Boat’.
Be one of the first to see and hear Jamie’s new album live, and experience Owl City’s catchy tunes and experimental beats from his new album ‘The Midsummer Station’. This combination of fresh exciting talent in one of Auckland’s favourite crowd-pleasing venues is a show not to be missed!
