Puppies Announces Closing Date

Wellington music venue Puppies will be closing down on the weekend of 20-22nd of June.

The venue's owner, Blink of A Low Hum, announced  the bar's final weekend on Facebook, with a music festival occurring over the Friday and Saturday nights titled 'The End of Puppies'.

With the closure only three months away, a series of concerts have been planned in the lead up to June 22nd, with musicians such as Grayson Gilmour, Lontalius, Glass Vaults, Samuel Flynn Scott & His Bunnies on Ponies, Orchestra of SpheresDisasteradioGolden AxeBlack City LightsThe All Seeing HandThe Shocking PinksTommy Ill, Alphabethead, The BatsLawrence Arabia, and Tiny Ruins all due to perform at Puppies one last time.

A Kickstarter has been set up so "the venue [can] go out the way it deserves" and is the only way to purchase tickets to the final weekend. A 2XLP called 'End of Puppies' and a book, 'The problem with music in New Zealand, how we can fix it and why I started and ran Puppies' is also available for pre-order for fans of Puppies.

Opened in October 2012, it was always known the venue was only temporary, but the announcement of the closing date comes as a further blow to Wellington's live music scene, after iconic venue Mighty Mighty also announced its imminent closure.
