Real Groovy's Record Store Day Lineup
Record Store Day 2014 - Easter Saturday April 19th

Another year has spun around since the last Record Store Day and Real Groovy is gearing up to celebrate in style again this Easter – yes, Record Store Day 2014 falls on Saturday April 19th – with in-store live music, guest DJs, exclusive local and international vinyl releases and lots of other activities.

Highlights include three Record Store Day exclusive vinyl releases on the Real Groovy Records label, plus an exclusive Suburban Reptiles 7” re-issue and new material from The Phoenix Foundation on 7”.  We are delighted to say there will be live performances by The Spelling Mistakes and The Phoenix Foundation, with a guest DJ line-up of personalities spinning their favourite tunes throughout the day.

Doors open at 9am and customers will be queuing for:

Local Releases:
Three stunning coloured vinyl releases on the Real Groovy Records label:

La De Da's - La De Da’s [LP]
No other band epitomised Mod style in mid-sixties New Zealand more than the La De Da's. Recording at Eldred's tiny Saratoga Avenue home studio in Herne Bay, Auckland, the La De Da’s rocked the antipodes with a sound that rivalled those of their idols The Small Faces and The Rolling Stones.

The Scavengers - The Scavengers [LP]
In 1977, The Scavengers were one of New Zealand’s foremost original punk bands. This compilation captures the best of their 1978 studio output as The Scavengers along with four exclusive demos recorded in Australia in 1979 after a name change to The Marching Girls.

Spelling Mistakes - Feels So Good [LP]
Taking the sneer and aggression from the first wave of seventies punk and matching it with a sixties pop sensibility, The Spelling Mistakes recorded the classic Feels So Good, the notorious (The Ballad Of) Reena's Piss Flaps, and a handful of demos. Feels So Good brings together their 1979 and 1980 recordings re-issued for the first time from the original master tapes.

Plus two 7” releases, one a re-issue of the legendary Suburban Reptiles1978 release, the other brand new material from The Phoenix Foundation.

Suburban Reptile - Saturday Night Stay At Home [7”]
First time official re-issue of the legendary and much sort after Suburban Reptiles 7” single from 1978! Both sides mastered from the original analogue master tape. Limited to 400 copies worldwide. A limited gold vinyl edition will be available to the first 20 buyers in store with a bonus colour print signed by photographer Paul Hartigan of the band in action.

The Phoenix Foundation - Bob Lennon John Dylan / Asswipe [7”]
The Phoenix Foundation will release the David Fridmann (Flaming Lips, MGMT, Tame Impala) mixed 7” Bob Lennon John Dylan / Asswipe on the 19th of April.

International Vinyl Releases.
As usual we will be obtaining as many of the plethora of Record Store Day releases as we can get our hands on. All will be in strictly limited quantities to instore customers only. No presales, no web sales, no mail order. You have to be here!

Live Performances
The Spelling Mistakes will play a short set live in-store on Record Store Day to celebrate the release of “Feels So Good”, with a signing opportunity immediately after.
The Phoenix Foundation are in Auckland for the Waiheke Jazz Festival where they headline the Good Friday Groove, Friday 18 April – we are lucky to have the band playing the 2 songs acoustically in-store from the RSD exclusive 7”.

Guest DJs:
A strong line up of local record lovers will play sides picked from the massive treasure trove of classic and obscure vinyl available in the store.
