Rufus Wainwright and Youssou N'Dour to Play WOMAD

WOMAD festival has announced Rufus Wainwright and Youssou N'Dour will perform at the 2015 event, in their first lineup reveal.

Rufus Wainwright, from Canada is "A genuine original, and one of the great male vocalists and songwriters of his generation. Sharp, erudite, emotional and dexterous as a singer, pianist and guitarist." Wainwright has visited New Zealand a number of times over the years, most recently with Paul Simon when they performed at Vector Arena and Forsyth Barr Stadium in 2013.

Youssou N'Dour, from Senegal is "The senior statesman of African music, Youssou N’Dour defines the essence of West African groove with his compelling songs, soaring vocals and spectacular performances. This is his first WOMAD NZ appearance."

The full lineup for WOMAD 2015 will be announced on the evening of Wednesday 22nd October.
