The popular Auckland light festival Art in the Dark has announced that it will not be going ahead this year.
The free event takes over Western Park over a weekend every year in the early summer months. The park is transformed into a brightly lit hub of installations and sculptures commissioned and created especially for the festival.
Significant works by artists Tiffany Singh, Hannah Jensen, Alexander Bartleet, Kit Webster (international), Flox and Johnson Witehera have been included in Art in the Dark. Scientist Siouxie Wiles, architects from Cheshire Architects, Jasmax and Fabricate and performers from Douglas Wright and Backlit Productions have also presented work in the Festival.
Celia Harrison, Creative Director of Art in the Dark says, "We would like to thank our funding bodies, artists, sponsors and the entertainment industry for their extraordinary support that has meant we have been able to create a truly unique and memorable event for Auckland."
Over the years, 150,000 people have visited the festival and it has become a important, highly anticipated date on the Auckland arts calendar.
Art in the Dark promises to return in 2016 and are looking at securing a new venue to accommodate the growing audience.
