Reggae By The River returns to Taupo this summer with a slam-dunk of NZ musical heavyweights. The concert in Riverside Park on Wednesday 30 December will feature Trinity Roots, The Black Seeds and Tomorrow People.
From the tail of the fish to the tip, Aotearoa has been swept up in the music of Trinity Roots. The influences that the group brought together joined the dots between head-nodding reggae, slow-burning funk and jazz adventurism. Their recent 3rd Studio album –'Citizen' has seen the band playing International Festivals (WOMAD NZ 2015, Celtic Connections UK, Splore, Sundaise) as well as intensive tours throughout Australia & NZ to sell-out audiences. They have recently been announced as NZ Music Award finalists in the Best Roots Album category.
Groove masters The Black Seeds are bringing their infectious blend of soul, afro-funk and dub back to Riverside Park. Since forming in the late 90's they have released 6 albums and solidified their status as one of the best live bands in New Zealand and an essential addition to any summer festival.
Wellington band Tomorrow People went from a humble garage to major festival slots, industry recognition and an award-winning debut album that fans kept in the charts for over a year! The 7-piece ‘sunshine reggae’ masters have gone from strength to strength and show no signs of slowing down. Their new album, Bass And Bassinets is released on 13 November, so you can get some new infectious Tomorrow People tunes in your head before summer!
Reggae By The River is now a regular feature in the Taupo summer season. Last year over 2,500 locals and tourists enjoyed the great kiwi music and chilled-out family atmosphere within the beautiful location of Riverside Park.
Gates will open at 5pm and the event is family-friendly with children 12yrs and under able to attend free of charge with a paying adult. A range of food and beverages will be available on site, but concert-goers may bring sealed water and non-commercial food.
