The Ice Rink Is Back To Aotea Square For One More Fun Winter

Come out of hibernation and get your skates on for the dazzling programme of mid-winter fun at the Aotea Square Ice Rink and Ice slide from Friday 17 June to Sunday 24 July.
 
Life size polar bears, penguins, and seals will set the scene for the return of the sparkling ice rink and exhilarating 35-metre-long double-laned ice slide - back for the fifth year running.
 
The winter wonderland festivities are expected to attract over 20,000 people to Aotea Square during the six-week programme providing inner-city excitement for the young and young at heart.
 
The Penguin Kids Zone lets newbies find their feet in a smaller enclosed area, before taking to the ice in the main rink. Helmets are available free of charge and skating frames are available for hire.
 
Themed weekends, competitions and parties ensure kids will be spoilt for choice. Wild on Ice(18-19 June) will see $1 for every skater donated to the Auckland Zoo Conservation Fund, working to protect New Zealand’s native birds and seals. Get dressed as a cheeky kea in green or orange and enjoy kea colouring competitions, mask making and face painting.
 
The excitement continues with the Ice Age: Collision Course Party (2-3 Jul). Aotea Ice Rink is heading into space to celebrate the upcoming movie (in cinemas 7 Jul). Come dressed in a space-themed costume and be in to win some great prizes. There’ll be Ice Age face painting, a find the acorn treasure hunt and colouring competitions.
 
For mid-week school holiday fun make sure to catch the Snow Foam (11 -15 Jul) falling three times a day transforming the rink into a foam party just for kids.
 
When the day turns to night, it’s time for the adults to hit the ice! Every Tuesday catch Student Skate Night with discounted tickets, great music and giveaways for the studying masses. On Friday nights, get the party started with DJ Poroufessor’s Ice Sessions.
 
Local and national skating talent will show off their skills at the Ice Sports Weekend (25-26 Jun), demonstrating ice hockey, figure and speed skating and on 4 July, the Americana Party will celebrate Independence Day, complete with line dancing on the ice. For one night only a Foam Party (14 Jul) will be thrown for the big kids and the Ice Carnival Weekend (16-17 Jul) is a party not be missed.
 
Off the ice, Aotea Square has warm, delicious treats to keep by-standing bellies content with hot drinks and snacks available from Box Café.
