Grammy-nominated rapper Schoolboy Q will return to New Zealand this spring for an all-ages concert at Auckland’s Logan Campbell Centre in celebration of Blank Face, his highly anticipated fourth studio album.
Born in Germany to a pair of military parents, ScHoolboy Q spent the first three years of his life in Texas before his family eventually settled in Los Angeles. While nodding to East Coast icons such as The Notorious B.I.G. and Nas as his biggest influences, the rapper’s voice remains unmistakably imbued with the L.A. spirit.
In 2009, ScHoolboy Q joined Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock and Ab-Soul as the latest addition to Top Dog Entertainment’s burgeoning roster. After releasing a series of stellar mixtapes and two acclaimed studio albums – Setbacks and Habits & Contradictions – the rapper made his major label debut with Oxymoron, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Charts and achieved platinum status after selling more than a million units.
Now, ScHoolboy Q returns with Blank Face (out now through Interscope/Universal). His most ambitious work to date, the record brings together a formidable cast of collaborators, including Kanye West, Vince Staples, Miguel, Anderson .Paak, Swizz Beats and Jadakiss. Across its 17 tracks, ScHoolboy Q is as razor-sharp as ever, shaping Blank Face into a sprawling, rhapsodic epic.
