Girls Rock! Camp Debuts In NZ This January 2018

Gather your soul sisters and indulge in a week full of music at the inaugural Girls Rock! Camp Aotearoa. The feminist music programme will touch down on our shores in January, with the aim of empowering women, building their confidence and fostering social change through music.

Up to 40 young women—including female, trans and and gender non-conforming youth—between the ages of 12–17 years are expected to camp at MAINZ. They will form bands, learn instruments, attend workshops and write an original composition to be performed at a concert for friends and family at the end of the week.

The kaupapa of Girls Rock Camp! Aotearoa is to make the world a fair and inspiring place to live in. It is a group of feminist musicians from bands (Street Chant, The Beths, carb on carb, Wax Chattels, & more) and music lovers with years of music industry experience, committed to guiding the advancement and empowerment of young women.

And to meet it's goal of delivering professional and affordable programme upon its debut, the organisation has launched a crowd-funding campaign via Boosted. Donations will go toward crucial costs such as equipment hire and tutor fees. The group also wants to provide free scholarship placements for families that need it.
